Eastern Wave – Some of The Best Phones Coming From Chinese Brands

China saw the rise of the quality of their manufacturers that’s unmatched when compared to other parts of the world. Just a couple of years ago brands like Huawei, Oppo, Lenovo were considered as a cheap, but not particularly quality alternatives to big brands coming from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, and U.S. Nowadays we can see that Huawei, Xiaomi, Lenovo, Meizu and others offer quality devices that look nice, work excellent and have that feel of longevity that activates when you feel something is quality made. The best part of this new situation is the price. Chinese manufacturers often offer the best combination of quality components, solid design, and a highly competitive price.  In order to show you how good some of the devices are, we made a list containing some of the best bangs for your buck. This isn’t a flagship list, it’s a list for people who want relatively cheap but at the same time powerful and pretty-looking phone. Stay with us and find some of the most interesting models coming from Chinese brands.

Xiaomi Redmi 3

Redmi 3

For just $135 you can get Redmi 3, a middle tier smartphone made by Xiaomi. It has really good specs for the price. 5-inch HD (1280×720) display, which has a density of 294 ppi. It comes with android 5.1 and has Snapdragon 616 at its heart, almost imposible to imagine with a phone that costs under $150. Other notable features are 16 gigs of internal storage, 2 gigs of RAM, and a 13 MP main camera. The battery is another positive surprise, the phone packs huge 4100 mAh battery, enough for two days of heavy use. Build quality is fantastic for the price and the phone comes with micro SD card slot and dual-SIM capabilities. For that price, Redmi 3 is really a steal.

Meizu m2 Mini

Meizu m2

Ok, this is another unbelievably cheap phone, considering its specs. It can be found for $130 on Aliexpress, and for that money, you’ll get some real nice features. 5-inch HD display, Quad-core Mediatek chipset made out of 4 Cortex-A53 cores running at 1.3 GHz. Not the best one available but for that money, more than enough. Chipset is enough to make phone snappy and highly responsive, and with 2 gigs of RAM and a Mali-T720MP2 GPU, most modern games will work without a problem. Internal storage is 16 GB, M2 also has 13 MP main camera, Dual-SIM capabilities and an SD card slot, if you need more memory space. The battery is slightly disappointing; having the capacity of just 2500 mAh, and the phone comes with Android 5.1. For the price of $130, Meizu m3 is a really nice deal.

Xiaomi Mi4c

Mi4c got released in September 2015, it has great specs, and the price is unbelievably low. Look, the phone offers 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 808 chipset, 16 gigabytes of internal storage and 2 gigs of RAM, all for a low price of $160. That’s almost impossible to believe, but it’s the truth. On top of the really powerful chipset and a nice screen, you’ll get 13 MP main camera, 5 MP front-facing camera, Android 5.1 and a 300 mAh battery. Unfortunately, there is no SD card slot, but the good news is that there is a version with 32 gigs or internal storage and 3 gigs of RAM, but it is slightly more expensive, with $205 price tag, which is still unbelievably low considering phone’s specifications.

Meizu m3

Another model from Meizu, that’s basically a successor to m2, isn’t available yet, but it garnered lots of attention when it was recently revealed. Mostly because it offers unbelievable specs for the recommended $92 retail price. For instance, it will pack a 5-inch 720p display, 2.5D glass on its front,  an octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU (Mediatek MT6750 chpset), 2 gigs of Ram, 16 GB of internal storage, and a solid 13 MP camera. Front facing camera has 5 MP and there is a realtively large 2870 mAh battery, more than enough for a combination of MT6750 and a 5-inch 720p display. Other goodies found in Meizu m3 are an SD card slot and 4G capabilities. Of course, like all other models on this list, m3 will have a Dual SIM slot. And yes, the price really is $92, the phone probably won’t see markets outside of China, but it will surely be available for purchase on Aliexpress. For this price, the m3 offer a perfect mix of quality components, solid display, juicy battery, dual-SIM options, and an expandable storage. Madness.

Lenovo Zuk 2 Pro

Ok, we saved the best for the end (although Meizu m3 could be the best phone on this list, considering what you can get for under $100). Lenovo Zuk 2 Pro costs around CNY 2699 (around $400), and compared to other models on this list it looks like an expensive phone. But, for $400 you’ll get top-of-the-line components, and some incredible specs. First, Zuk 2 Pro packs Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, a flagship chipset that’ll run any game, will make the phone incredibly fast, and will also be keen on the battery. Next, the phone has 6 GB of RAM, yes 6 GB; another positive surprise is that Zuk 2 Pro comes with 128 gigs of internal storage, something that we can see only in iPhone, but iPhone doesn’t have an SD card slot. You thought that Zuk 2 has one? Well, it doesn’t, but 128 GB of memory should be more than enough for 99% of users. The screen is 5.2-inch with 1080p resolution, yes it isn’t QHD but for that price 1080p is more than enough, and keep in mind that 1080p drains battery much less than those QHD beasts. Other notable features are 13 MP main camera, 3100 mAh battery, 8MP front-facing camera and Android 6.0.1. Pretty nice for $400 phone.
