SunnyBAG LEAF+ Is a Portable Solar Panel Weighing Just 200 grams, Can Be Mounted On Any Backpack

If you love spending time outside, you’re most likely familiar with the problem of not having enough juice to power a smartphone, tablet, or any other kind of electronic device. Although camping, hiking or bicycling through the wild are supposed to be electronic device-free activities, we are all slaves to the high divinity called Electricity. But, one Kickstarter project might help you in having your gadgets filled with power at all times.

And while recharging a device is relatively easy if you have a portable power bank, recharging it for a second time will be a problem for almost all models, since power banks are designed to be more of a one-time solution, with a usual scenario being recharging your phone or tablet while traveling. But, what if there are plans for a long voyage, like mountain climbing expedition, or a good ol’ fishing trip? Well, there’s a solution and its name is SunnyBAG LEAF+, a portable solar system packed with 4000 mAh power bank (called SunnyBAG PowerStick), a perfect companion for all nature lovers.

Its main qualities are a high level of portability and a new kind of tech used for solar panels called “Triple-Junction technology” that “utilizes thin-film solar cells made from amorphous silicon, which allows the module to produce power even when partially shaded. Each cell absorbs the blue, green and red light of the sun through the three layers of the cell. Thus the Triple-Junction solar cells convert a wider spectrum of light into electricity than conventional cells.”

The panel has Micro-USB and Lighting connectors (USB Type-C model will be unlocked if funding surpasses 35,000 euros), is weatherproof, weighs just under 200 grams and can be easily mounted on any backpack. Another handy feature is that, by using “Triple-Junction technology,” SunnyBAG LEAF+ provides unmatched efficiency in low light conditions (great for hiking through dense woods).

Basically, your solar panel will gather more energy from the sun, enabling a faster power bank refill, and since the panel can be mounted on practically any kind of backpack, all you have to do in order to have your devices filled with power is walking on sunshine. No need to mount complex systems requiring a device to be connected all the time, no need to wait until a device is charged, just mount SunnyBAG LEAF+ on your backpack, and let the power bank to fill. This way, electronic devices can be charged during night, and even while traveling by just connecting them to the panel.

A solution with so many potential uses; a backpacking cross-country trip, camping in the middle of the jungle, a festival summer, you name it.  SunnyBAG LEAF+ provides 6.2 watts of power and is designed by Stefan Ponsold hailing from Austria. You can back up the project on Kickstarter. You can get it if you pledge at least €74 (retail price will be €129).
